Instructions to Authors
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
1. Submission of manuscripts. The manuscript should be sent to the Editor in Chief via pmbcbulletin@gmail.com. Papers will be first evaluated by Assistances Editor and Editor of Phuket Marine Biological Center Special Publication. The submission of a manuscript will be taken to imply that the material is original and that no similar paper is being, or will be, submitted for publication elsewhere. With guidance from external references, the Center will accept for publication resutls of training and education in the filed of marine biology from national universities, other institutions, and foreign students that have benefited from the facilities of PMBC, also co-operation between internation organization and PMBC in organizing workshops and training courses on selected grupos of marine animals.
2. Manuscripts. Paper should be written in concise English with the minimum number of tables and illustrations, double spaced on one side of quarto or A4 with a margin of 2.5 cm all round. Manuscripts should not exceed 15 pages (including tables, captions, footnotes and references). The first mention of the Latin name of a species should be followed by the authority. If a new taxon is described, the institute in which the type material is deposited must be indicated, together with details of the registration assigned to it. All linear measurements and weights should be in the metric scale. The manuscript should be prepared in Microsoft Word and table should be produced in Microsoft Excel.
The text should be arranged according to the following scheme:
(a) Title. The title of the paper should be kept as short as possible and be followed by the author’s name and institute.
(b) Abstract. The abstract should summarize the contents and conclusions of the paper, point out new information in the paper and indicate the relevance of the work.
(c) Introduction
(d) Materials and Methods
(e) Results
(f) Discussion (Conclusions if applicable)
(g) Acknowledgements (if applicable)
(h) References. References should only be made to quotation previously mentioned in the text. References must be listed alphabetically. The sequence of citation should be as follows :
a) Periodicals: Author’s name, year of publication, full title of paper, periodical (abbreviated according to the “World List of Scientific Periodicals” latest edition) volume, first and last page.
Example:
Berry, P.F. 1973. The biology of the spiny lobster Panulirusdelagoae (Barnard) off coast of Natal, South Africa. Inverst. rep. Oceanogr. Res. Inst. 31: 1–27.
b) Book: Author’s name, initials, year of publication, full title, publisher, place of publication, total number of pages.
Example:
Russell, F.S. and C.M. Yonge. 1928. The Sea. Frederick Warne, London. 397 p.
c) Composite works or serials: Authors name, initials, year of publication, full title of paper, followed by In: editor(s) if any, full title of publication, publisher, place of publication, first and last pages.
Example:
Fogg, G.E. 1964. Environmental conditions and the patterns of metabolism in algae. In: D.F. Jackson (ed.). Algae and Man. Plenum Press, New York. pp. 77–85.
(i) Appendix (if applicable)
Tables. Tables must have brief legends, they should be numbered in Arabic numerals and typed on separate pages inserted immediately after the text page on which the Table is to appear. The place of insertion in the text should be marked in the margin.
Illustrations. Figures must be in black ink or laser printed. No drawing should be so large that it must be reduced to less than one third of its original size. The degree of reductions need not be inserted by the authors. Axes and graduation marks on graphs must be inked in. Legends for figures must be typed on a separate sheet and not inserted on the actual illustrations. Figures drawn on tracing paper are acceptable.
Plates. Photographic illustrations must be clear, well contrasted and presented on glossy paper, size not to exceed 155 x 190 mm.
3. Proofs and Reprints. Proofs will be sent to the author and should be promptly returned to the editor. A total of 350–500 copies of the Research Bulletin will be printed and the first author will receive one copy.
