There are many forms of arrangement of artificial reef in Thailand depending on the objectives. Choosing an area for the artificial reef placement must be mainly considered on the consequences on marine ecological aspects. The objectives and forms can be described as follows: To conserve and recover the sea-the cube-shaped concretes are distributed all over the implemented area which provides habitats, food sources, breeding and nursery grounds for many aquatic organisms. For examples, the artificial reefs in Rayong, Chantaburi, Phetchaburi, Trat, and Narathiwat. To prevent some fisheries using trawl-push nets in the coastal areas-such fisheries cannot be done in the areas because the trawls can be destroyed when operating through the artificial reefs. In this purpose, the rectangular areas of artificial reef are designed paralleled to the coastal line. For examples, the artificial reefs in Rayong, Songkla, and Satun. To conserve fishery resources and prevent trawling fisheries in the coastal areas-the arrangement pattern of artificial reef is designed in order for fishery resource conservation and prevention from trawling fisheries within the designated coastal boundary. For example, the artificial reefs in Phuket, Phang Nga, Phetchaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Satun. To increase productivity of fish and squids- small-scale fishing areas where facing with depletion of aquatic animals is chosen to be the place with artificial reefs in order to increase productivity of aquatic animals. To promote fishing activities-the artificial reef is laid along the beach areas, for example, the artificial reef in front of Klong Tien Beach, Phetchaburi province. To recover fish that live near the sea surface- the artificial reefs are laid in order to lure such fish to live in. The artificial reefs should be appropriately far from the coast with the depth of 20-40 meters, where the current is not too strong, for example, the artificial reefs in Rayong province. To increase attitudes and collaboration among small-scale fishers and concerning stakeholders on marine resource utilization through meeting and participating with various activities that will sustainably enhance the restoration of coastal and marine resources as well as the social viability and their livelihoods. To support the measures for conservation and management of coastal and marine resources. To mitigate the problems regarding unemployment of small-scale fishers and to enhance their performance capacities.
